THE BEAR WHO WENT TO WAR - written by Alan Pollock
A story of loyalty, friendship, family and displacement amongst the senseless horror of war
Based on the true story of the bear cub adopted by young Polish soldiers who fought in the cruel and decisive Battle of Monte Cassino in May 1944. Wojtek became the soldiers' companion through the Italian campaign and, after they made him an Officer, stood alongside them in battle, ultimately emigrating with them to Scotland when all were left stateless at the end of the war.
